Pain D’Avignon was founded on Cape Cod by four childhood friends from the former Yugoslavia. We started the bakery out of the sheer longing for the flavorful, fresh breads like we grew up eating in Europe, which at the time, in the early 90s, was not being made in the States. We are self taught; through many experiments, tribulations and successes, our bread line was developed and perfected.
By the end of the decade, we made our way to New York and began a wholesale bakery in Queens in 2000. From the start, our mission has been to make exceptional breads using only the finest ingredients and time-tested methods. We are passionately committed to our customers and our staff, and are proud to be a trusted purveyor of artisan breads for many of New York’s top chefs and restaurants.

Our philosophy on bread is simple:
We bake breads using the same tried-and-true techniques that old-world bread bakers developed in bygone eras. In combining the simplest of ingredients—flour, water, leavening, salt—complex flavors and dynamic textures come to life.
We personally distribute our freshly baked bread and pastries daily to Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens. In addition, our distributors serve the entire Tri-State area.
